Farmer Post-Harvest
Study

AgriSustainify is conducting a landmark 200-farmer market research study spanning 6 Liberian counties and 6 weeks of fieldwork — generating investor-grade evidence to build farmer-centred solutions at scale across Liberia and West Africa.

  • Mapping post-harvest loss by county, crop type & storage method
  • Assessing market access channels & fair-price barriers for smallholders
  • Measuring digital readiness — smartphone ownership & agri-app adoption potential
  • Climate adaptation, financial inclusion & gender dynamics (min. 40% female respondents)
  • Building the evidence base for investor pitches, donor proposals & platform development

About the Research

What We Are Studying & Why It Matters

Agriculture employs over 60% of Liberia’s population, yet smallholder farmers producing 80% of the country’s food lose nearly a third of every harvest before it reaches a market. This study generates the rigorous, county-disaggregated evidence needed to change that — for good.

Post-Harvest Loss Mapping

We quantify exactly where and how much produce is lost — from storage failures and lack of refrigeration to poor roads and packaging — generating precise county-level data to design targeted interventions.

Market Access Assessment

We map where farmers sell, who buys their produce, and what percentage receive fair prices. Most smallholders currently sell to local traders at exploitative rates with no access to formal market channels or price information.

Digital Readiness Survey

We measure smartphone ownership (35–50% among youth farmers), mobile money usage, and agri-app adoption potential — ensuring our platform is designed to work for the farmers it serves.

Additional Research Themes
Climate Adaptation

How farmers respond to shifting rainfall and rising temperatures disrupting traditional planting calendars across Liberia’s diverse agro-ecological zones.

Financial Inclusion

Mobile money access, agricultural credit barriers, and willingness to pay for services like cold storage, soil testing, and advisory support.

Gender Dynamics

Disproportionate barriers female farmers face — from land tenure insecurity to input access — with a minimum 40% female respondent target across all counties.

Investor-Grade Deliverables

A 40+ page research report, investor data brief, policy brief for the Ministry of Agriculture, six county infographics, and a public executive summary.
